I know there is compensation for lost packages... ya know, the insurance amount plus the refund, but help me understand this.
Monday the post office was closed. I had three packages to mail. One to Lynell in New Orleans ( Jenn make her two crosses that were lovely.) I couldn't find Lynell's address at that moment so Jenn sent them here and I forwarded the package. Cost? $6.10. Arrived yesterday afternoon, found the UPS tracking #, cked on line, no problem.
Sent the youngest some Izod shirts that I had gotten off of EBay, plus a card game called "SET". For you Mom's and Grands who don't now about this card game, it was ranked as one of the most mind stimulating card games ( pairing cards & colors, developing parts of the brain that will help in the understanding of concepts such as algebraic equations later, etc.)--Anyway, when he was about 12 we read about this game and could not find it anywhere... finally find it at some "brainy" web site. When I was in Barnes and Noble I saw the game "SET", grabbed it, and put it in with the shirts, along with some candy corn and sent it via UPS to Tulane. Arrived yesterday- cost? $10.46.

NOW- I had a box filled with shirts for my son and grandson that was headed for Indiana. Along with the shirts I had my red headed grandson's favorite things- a bag of colored marshmallows, silly string, a pumpkin book from Barnes and Noble, my sons prescription of "Nexium" which cost almost $200.00, 2 $25.00 papa John pizza gift cards, Candy corn, several articles from the Internet my son had asked me to print for him~ so here is a 12 pound package, taped up so well it could NEVER fall apart in transit....I pay $85.38 to have it shipped, guaranteed to arrive yesterday by noon.
My son called, it never arrived. I looked up the tracking #~ looks like it was never scanned in here ( my town) . I called the store where I had walked in and sent each the package. They politely said, " we will get on it." Last night I called the 800 number and was told, " we can't put a trace on it until 10/11/06. Not the same message I got from the local store.
Now I can understand things getting lost~ I can even understand that they will compensate for the loss, however, my 5 year old grandson sat on the steps of his house, waiting for the brown truck to bring his surprises, my son needs his medication and they are going to reimburse me for the inconvenience..... how?
I've never had a problem with UPS, but am very disappointed by their lackadaisical approach regarding a package I spent OVER $85.00 to arrive guaranteed to be there by noon yesterday... UGH.
