Lynell VS the Wind

January 31, 2008 / by MentalHealthRN

My childhood friend, Lynell, is attempting to come see us this weekend for a visit. She is working on a custom stained glass door for someone in New Orleans. She has to drive over Lake Ponchatrain... right now the wind gust are up to 70 miles an hour so she can't leave. I've always hated driving over bridges and under tunnels. Take a look at what she has to drive over....

Stay safe Lynell!!

We have been over that bridge one time Mary and that was enough.  That bridge is about 25 or 26 miles long with nowhere to stop and get off.  Try driving over that with a 19 month old screaming and wanting to stop and get out of his car seat.  Not fun memories.  If we would have realized how long that was before we got on it then we wouldn't have.Surprised

I thought Katrina did a deep six on that bridge? Did they rebuild it already?

Oh my I wouldn't want to be on that bridge even when the wind is not blowing. Hope she can make it safely, Cindy Lou,Smile

there is an old bridge and a new bridge... right now I am afraid she is stuck on the inter state in a down pour. :-(

That is one freaky bridge!  I would be in rough shape.  I don't handle bridges well.

The good news is, if she gets blown off, she can get out of her car and stand up in nearly any part of the lake.   Most of it is no more than four feet deep! All kidding aside, I hate long bridges, even in good weather.  Have fun with your friend when she arrives.Laughing

I'm with jondude, I thought that bridge was really messed up...did they fix it already?   I always hated that bridge...it always scared me to drive over it..

I'm surprised they don't close the bridge when the wind is gusting that hard. Surprised Sounds really dangerous! I'm sure she'll make it okay. Cool After a drive like that, she will need some pampering at Cindy's Chateau.

We had 70 mph gusts here in central Arkansas on Tuesday.... they blew the roof off of the Music / Communications Building... in which I reside.  It was all pretty interesting to watch these huge shards of copper roofing blowing around like paper.  Many trees fell, but through God's grace there was only one death locally.  Driving across Ponchatrain in such conditions seems ill-advised.  I hope your friend made it all right.

Hope your friend waited it out and made it safely to your door!  I love driving across bridges like that but, I will admit that I would want it to be a perfectly clear and calm day.

Like I said to Mary that is a lonnnnnnng bridge.  We went over it once and don't care to do that again.  I don't like that bridge.  I hope and pray she is alright and made it there safely.
