I Need a Dress

January 3, 2007 / by MentalHealthRN

My "daughter in law to be" finally got her wedding gown and decided on the  brides maid dresses. This is a formal evening wedding, all dresses will be long. She is wearing the dress ( below) and the brides maids are wearing black dresses, (below but of course to the floor)  Now I need to find a dress. Everything I see looks like someones Maw-Maw.... I wanted simple, but elegant~ Any ideas? ( it will be the last weekend in June)

Oh man both dresses are gorgeous! don't go to a bridal shop go somewhere like Nordstrom's or JCPenny's and look for a cocktail dress. I'm certain you won't have a problem finding something stunning.

Those are beautiful choices in dresses. I don't think you should go for the motherly look... get something really sexy, backless, and low cut and slinky. It's okay for a mother to look sexier than the bride. At least in my opinion.[WINK][THUMBUP][THUMBUP][HEART]

I was thinking maybe a dark skirt and a dream blouse with a creame wide silk-ish belt/sash?

I would go with a cocktail dress or a two piece... definitely go sexy though! [WINK] Just because you are the mom... doesn't mean you have to look like the mom!

When I had my wedding reception, I didn't go with a traditional dress (since I got married in Vegas) - I bought a beautiful dress at David's Bridal in the prom gown section and it wasn't very expensive at all.

    Good Luck!

I went shopping for you Cindy. It isn't exactly what you described, but it is what I pictured for you. Check my blog for my finds.[SMILE][HEART]

[HEART][THUMBUP] love, love, love her dress! i'm not a fan of black at a wedding (bridesmaids), but a friend of mine just did & they were very pretty (in november) - june great month, i was the beginning of june, so you have tons of choices. my mother found hers at a local boutique & my mil found hers at jc penney, it was pretty, but a little maw-maw!! check out theknot.com & look at mother dresses, they have some nice suggestions!! The black dress looks good (or maybe it's who's in the black dress). But since they are going to be in white and black, I suggest color. Not too bright, subtle, pale, pastel, but color just the same. Don't want anyone to confuse you as the bride, but don't want anyone to over look ya either.

[OHMY][WINK][WINK] I'm getting old ,,, it was always White for the Bride and soft colors (pastels) for the bridesmaids,, weddings were a joyful time,, black was for sad times ,, like burying someone .[SAD][SAD][SAD][HEART]

I have been to a wedding where the colors were black and white too and seemed odd to me but it seems to be the in thing.[LOL][WINK][HEART]

The dresses are stunning. I saw photos of a wedding here where the bridesmaids were in black evening gowns (I'd never thought of black before for a bridesmaid!) the bride in ivory and the contrast between the two produced the most stunning look.

I am sure that you will find just the right dress to wear as you always seem to pull it all together with great ease![SMILE]

My Maid of honor and 3 bridesmaids wore gorgeous black dresses with thin spaghetti straps..... Our colors were black and purple and although it sounds strange.... it was a beautiful wedding! Very classy -
    Gem~

You are asking the wrong person here. I do not own a dress or a skirt.
